Music Career
Shania Twain's music career began in the spring of 1993, when she released her self-titled debut album. During the recording and through its release, Shania was unsatisfactory with the overall quality of the album. She felt as if the album was not filled with the music she would've chosen to do herself (as she was forced to work with song writers in Nashville, Tennessee). In the end, the album would prove to be unsuccessful, and would not sell well; only selling around 250,000 copies by the end of 1993. In June of 1995, Shania met rock-producer Robert Lange, who felt that she had the potential to become a great country artist. With his help, Shania released her sophomore album, The Woman in Me. With singles like "Any Man of Mine" and "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?," the album would sell over 12,000,000 copies, more than ten times its predecessor. Two years after the release of her second album, Shania released yet another; Come on Over. Selling only 127,000 copies in its first week, it looked to be a disappointment. However, after the release of the first few singles (including "You're Still The One," "That Don't Impress Me Much," and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!"), the album gained popularity. Twelve songs would end up being released as singles, and the album itself would go on to sell over 39,000,000 copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album by a female artist in history. After a short break, Shania released her forth album, Up!, in 2002. It debuted in the United States at #1 and stayed at that position for over a month. By the first week, the double-album had sold over 874,000 copies in the United States alone. Singles such as "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!," "Up!," and "Forever and for Always" helped Up! sell over 17,000,000 copies worldwide. In 2004, Shania released her Greatest Hits album. Featuring songs from her three platinum albums (a record number of platinum albums for a female artist), along with three new tracks, Greatest Hits would sell over 3,000,000 in the United States alone. |
